Veggie Garden Starter Kits!

Ok, I KNOW I haven't updated in a while, and I apologize to everyone, specially Cami. I HAVE crafted, but my toddler is very jealous of her quality time, and uploading pics has been harder... when facebook is so much easier to do.

Nevertheless, here's what I did today: After starting our first veggie garden, we loved it so much I decided to make a "Starter Kit" for my daughter's classmates. Planting is a great activity to do with kids!

It's cute, yet simple. Cardstock in weathered white, hand-embossed tomato, and a raffia string for an "organic" look. Inside is a biodegradable pot, and seeds for different veggies. Hope they like 'em!!!

Decorated chocolate bars to celebrate the beginning of a new school year!

Now that my daughter started school, and knowing that little kids have sometimes mixed feelings about starting school and leaving mom; I made a "mom" for each kid in my girl's class. The teacher (who is a doll herself) provided me with the info on what the moms looked like. I crafted and laminated them and the kids were instructed to bring their "mom" along for the first week of school. It was such a cute idea! Too bad that not only I forgot my daughter's "paper mom" on the first day; she was so happy in her new school she didn't even notice I was gone! :)

Mother's day cards I made for the extended family in Wisconsin. I really loved the way they look, and they have glitter glaze on the outline. My mom decided she wanted something even more unique, so she didn't get one. I'm sorry I didn't keep one, 'cause I LOVE the way these turned out. Guess I'll make some more!

Shukran is thank you in Arabic. When a Lebanese friend cooks something for you you don't just make a thank you note, you make a fancy "Shukran" note! Chocolate covered marzipan is inside.

The mother's day card I made for my mom. She's a shoe person, I'm not.

Thank you notes for some really nice mammas who thought of the librarian for teacher's day.

I recently started making pendants out of scrabble tiles and I'm totally hooked! They're so easy to make and addictive, and I love the glaze!

My friend María Molina asked for a cool pendant for her daughter. She's a huge Tim Burton and Johnny Depp fan, so I knew black and purple would be just right. The little tin works as a gift box. Love it!

Yummy easter treats for our friends at church and the teachers who take cake of our baby so Mom and Dad can attend sunday service.

This yummy cake isn't chocolate, but paper. I made it for a friend who did something very nice for my family.

So after the chocolate cake, all I could think of was... I gotta make more paper cake! So here it is, lemon cake. Oh, yum!

Few things are as cute as sock monkeys. This was whipped in 15 minutes out of felt and is meant to be used as a jacket or coffee sleeve. Isn't he adorable?

These pretty birds are meant to be a mobile for my sister in law Carolina, who is about to open her dance studio...

They're made from recycled pressboard, and decorated in black and white motifs. I love how they turned out!

Woven paper bird. My friend Juanjo taught me how to make them at out last Origami convention and the very next day I made this one. Lovely! Now I'm thinking of making TONS for my Christmas tree...

And here you can appreciate it from two different angles. Brite Hue paper, just as simple as that. Thanks Juanjo!

Another detail of my studio. A cubby meant for the bathroom holds my fibers neatly and by color. An altered tin, Gerber jars to hold accents, my wedding invitation (it was Noah's ark themed!), which I illustrated in watercolor; and a picture of my beloved Nonna with a little birdie...

Some of my fabrics, ribbons and scissors. My beautiful sofa (shh... it's a pin cushion!). Clear plastic boxes store my Quickutz, Chartpack markers (still working, and to think I bought them back when I was designing fashion in 1995!), and other tools. Two things I always keep handy: hand lotion and lip balm.

Why I CREATEd this blog

Well, because every time I finish a piece and give it away without taking a picture first; I've come to regret it when people ask for samples of what I do. So I figured it made more sense to have an online catalog (like my hubby had been asking me for the last 6 years!) where I could post my work.

I will try to post pics often, but at times they're just so many!

The work I do is all handmade and I wouldn't dream of doing it any other way. Because of this and the delicate nature of each piece; it takes different times to do different projects so please ask first. I like to put my personal touch on all my work, but if you need your favors to all look the same, I absolutely can. I use only quality material (acid & lignin free) and everything comes from a happy, smoke-free home!

I post my pictures so other fellow artists can find inspiration (believe me, I visit your blogs and swoon!) and to reach my clients in a wider way (carrying my portfolio of work is too heavy!). My ideas are original unless otherwise stated and may only be used to recreate your own, or for personal inspiration [ eye candy ] but not to be used for business, publication or contest submission. I am in Mexico but can track you down! hee hee
